Katie is a senior yoga teacher (IYTA), massage therapist (ITEC), certified infant massage instructor (IMA), doula (Optimum Birth), Reiki practitioner, author and mum-of-three. She is also the Huggies baby club pregnancy yoga and baby massage expert and is a lecturer on the IYTA’s Teacher Training Course and the IYTA’s Pre and Post Natal Yoga Teacher Training Diploma.
Katie has been teaching general yoga classes, pre-natal yoga, post-natal yoga, baby yoga and infant massage for the past decade to thousands of women across Australia.
She is based on the Northern Beaches of Sydney and holds regular classes, workshops and talks.
“I’ve always practised yoga and I love the way it helps me feel fit, calm, relaxed and nurtured.
I began teaching yoga while working as a magazine journalist – the meditations, breathing exercises and asanas were the perfect antidote to the stress of deadlines and chasing stories.
After the birth of my first child, I found myself increasingly drawn to yoga and the benefits it can bring – not just to you, but to your entire family.
As a new mum, I developed Post Natal Anxiety and it was only through Yoga and researching and writing my book: Mother Me – a mum’s guide to balance, wellbeing and harmony, that I managed to get myself back on track – and actually enjoy my baby and my life.
Since then I’ve produced two relaxation CDs and three Yoga DVDs to help you (and your family) feel nurtured, calm and relaxed too. And I have worked with the Huggies Baby Club to produce an online pregnancy and post-natal yoga and massage program.
I’m also a member of the IYTA – International Yoga Teacher’s Association and I lecture on the IYTA’s Teacher Training Course and the Diploma of Pre and Post Natal Yoga Teacher Training. In 2002, I set up Yoga Babes which is now Katie Brown Yoga – I have specialised in pregnancy yoga, yoga for birth, post natal yoga and baby yoga. But I am also enjoying exploring the general health benefits of yoga – whatever your age or stage! I’m increasingly drawn to how yoga can help in puberty and for the other end of the spectrum – menopause.
In my blogs I am regularly writing articles about all of these stages and phases – how yoga can help in a simple, easy and effective way. Don’t worry I won’t be getting you up before dawn to chant (unless you want to of course!). But writing about how yoga can fit into your busy life – giving you the balance and peace that you need. I’m now the NSW State representative for Infant Massage Australia and the co-trainer of the NSW IMA professional training program. I also lecture on the IYTA Yoga Teachers’ training course and the IYTA’s Diploma of Pre and Post Natal Yoga Teacher Training course.
