Essential oils for pregnancy

Spotlight on Wild Orange and Lavender

Essential oils are plant extracts – highly concentrated and a natural alternative to help support your health and wellbeing.

It is always best to use caution and common sense when using oils during pregnancy – make your mantra: less is more!

Don’t ingest the oils and always dilute the oils with a carrier oil, such as sweet almond oil, jojoba or fractionated coconut oil.

In this week’s class we had Wild Orange in the diffuser… I just LOVE Wild Orange – it’s known to create a sense of joy.

I like to use Wild Orange in pregnancy – just to inhale once or twice, or put a few drops into an infuser as wild orange can ease anxiety, nausea, fatigue and aid reflux and insomnia.

You can also massage Wild Orange into the soles of your feet (mix with a carrier oil) to help ward off feelings of depression – do this at night and then pop on a pair of cotton socks.

Another oil to use in pregnancy is Lavender – which can help ease stress, soothe skin irritations and ease muscle cramps.

Pop a couple of drops on your pillow at night to help you float into a soothing slumber! Put a couple of drops into a warm bath to help reduce anxiety.

You can also make a blend of lavender and a carrier oil and gently stroke in a circular motion from your feet up to your thighs. This can help reduce oedema and swelling.

Lavender is also great to help ease a headache – just rub a drop at your temples (so much better than reaching for a pain killer).

In this week’s class I’ll have both of these oils available. If you’d like to know more about the essential oils then let me know. I run complimentary essential oil sessions which include yummy treats, learning about the oils and a nurturing meditation.
