Q: What is Anti Anxiety Yoga?

If you want strategies to feel safe, calm and relaxed then this is the course for you!This program blends the best calming practices from yoga, meditation, mindfulness, massage, restorative yoga and breathing to create one easy-to-follow course aimed specifically as easing anxiety. By the end of the course you will have a toolbox of resources to help you manage anxiety.

Q: Who is it for?

Everyone! It is for all ages and levels of fitness. It is for people new to yoga and meditation and for seasoned practitioners. It is particularly good for people suffering anxiety, poor or disturbed sleep, feelings of frustration, exhaustion, menopause, coping with major life change and depletion. It is also good for strategies to cope with stress and in times of increased tension and pressure, such as exams, starting a new job etc..

Q: Who is it run by?

Anti Anxiety Yoga has been written, developed and presented by Katie Brown. Katie is the author of Mother Me and a senior yoga teacher and lecturer. Katie is a mum-of-three – with a son doing his HSCs this year. She has been teaching yoga for 20 years on the Northern Beaches and is a senior lecturer with the IYTA – International yoga Teachers’ Association. She teaches on the  IYTA’s Diploma of Yoga Teaching and Yin Yoga Foundations course and runs the Restorative Yoga Teaching certificate. She is also a qualified massage therapist. Katie says: “I’ve experienced anxiety and depression in the past – which is why I practised and then studied massage and yoga. I’ve continued to research this area, with the intention of being able to create calm and deal with stress naturally on a daily basis.”

Katie teaches the class from her yoga studio and is often accompanied by her one-year-old Spaniel, Minty who loves to chill out in the relaxations!

Q: What will I need?

This course is being delivered online and Live via Zoom. So you will need a device to watch the class. If possible, you will need a yoga mat, cushion or pillow and blanket. You may also like an eye pillow or eye pad for the relaxations.

If you can practise in a quiet space and ensure you will not be disturbed for the hour-long class. You are welcome to invite family members to do the class with you but try not to talk during the session, so you can focus on the instructions J

Q: When do I need to log in?

The class begins promptly at 7.30pm and will run until 8.30pm – there will be time for a quick discussion/check in before the class and after the class – these check in/out sessions won’t be recorded.

Q: Then what?

After the check in, I will mute everyone and will record the session – don’t worry, you won’t be captured on the recording as I will spotlight the video.

If you would like, I can then send you the link and code to the recordings. So you can do them during your HSCs.

After the class I will stop the recording – you can stay behind if you have questions.

Q: How long does the program run?

It is four weeks from 7.30pm – 8.30pm  on Tuesday, September 15, 22, 29 and October 6 from 7-8pm AEST.

Q: Anything else I need to know?

Try not to eat a big meal just before the class as there will be some movement. Wear loose, comfortable clothes and have a bottle of water close by. If you have any concerns about the program check with your doctor or psychologist before doing the sessions.

Q: How can I register?

This course is FREE for HSC students. Otherwise it is just $50 for all four classes. You have the option of doing the classes live and/or watching the recordings.
