Golden Tea – the perfect bedtime brew
If you find yourself reaching for a glass of wine at night or a mug of caffeine-laden hot chocolate, then make the switch and sip Golden (or Turmeric) Tea instead. Golden Tea is a traditional Indian medicinal drink, which can
help promote a feeling of balance and a great night’s sleep.
Of course the main ingredient is the super spice Tumeric! It is a bright yellow powder, which stains everything it touches – so be warned!
It’s also a powerful anti-inflammatory agent and high in manganese, iron and Vitamin C. It’s also known to help reduce joint pain, inflammatory bowel disease and is even believed to inhibit cancer cell growth!
And when Tumeric is combined with cinnamon, cracked pepper, milk and organic honey – it’s the perfect drink to sip at bedtime. I’ve found the fussiest food critic of my three children will happily drink it.
It’s best taken at night to help combat insomnia, (the recipe is below) and I prefer to use Bonsoy milk – but you can use almond milk, cconut or cow’s milk
Ingredients
1 tablespoon of Tumeric (I try to put in as much as possible – the more you have, the richer the golden colour
1 teaspoon cinnamon (too much and it can taste fairly bitter)
pinch of cracked pepper
1 teaspoon of raw honey (or maple syrup)
2 cups of bonsoy milk (or your choice of milk)
Method:
I like to whizz up all the ingredients in a blender or Thermomix (speed 5 for 5 seconds) which gives it a lovely frothy consistency, then transfer to a pan or heat in Thermomix.
Drink while warm and enjoy!
